Eulàlia Reguant was sentenced to a fine of 13,500 euros for not incorporating accessories to the prison sentence
The Criminal Court number 30 of Madrid has sentenced four months in prison to the former deputy of the CUP Anthony Baths for a crime of serious disobedience to authority for refusing to answer Vox in the ‘procés’ trial that was held in the Supreme Court. The penalty is higher than that imposed on the deputy of the Parliament Eulalia Reguant for the same conduct, although that of the journalist is not yet firm.
In the case of Reguant, who was judged in the Supreme Court as appraised, it was understood that the imposition of a fine of 13,500 euros it was sufficient and proportionate to her purchasing power as a member of Parliament, while the sentence of four months in prison requested by the prosecution entailed other accessory penalties such as disqualification that complicated her stay in Parliament.
However, in the case of Baños, he was tried in a criminal court, before which he refused to testify because he could not do so in Catalan and considered Spanish “a foreign language“. The magistrate considers him responsible for a crime of serious disobedience to the authority for refusing to answer Vox in the ‘procés’ trial and condemns him as requested by the prosecution.
