Four months in prison for aggravated assault in prison Veenhuizen

A 24-year-old Moroccan man has been sentenced to four months in prison for aggravated assault on a fellow detainee in the prison in Veenhuizen.

The judge sentenced less than the required six months in prison. This is mainly due to the passage of time. The facts are as of June and August 2018. No reason has been given why these matters have been shelved for so long.

The judge charges the man in particular that he severely beat up a fellow detainee in prison. He did this while serving a prison sentence for a violent crime. This did not stop him from raging again within the prison walls.

The fellow detainee was lured out of the kitchen by the twentysomething. At the airport, the victim was attacked by the man’s brother. The two brothers beat the lured man with a broken nose and broken front teeth. The security guards saw this happening via the camera images and intervened.

Two months later, the Moroccan got involved in a fight in the parking lot in Stadskanaal. One victim suffered stab wounds. The judge agrees with the public prosecutor that it has not been proven that the man in his twenties was the one who stabbed. But he was there otherwise and walked away from the violence.

The residence permit of the twenty-something has been withdrawn. Since then he has been without a trace for the judiciary. His brother has already been convicted of the mating in prison. The victim can expect compensation of 1,750 euros.
