Four men arrested after bank helpdesk fraud on 71-year-old Heilooër

Four men have been arrested on suspicion of bank helpdesk fraud on a 71-year-old man from Heiloo, the police announced today. The suspects are between 19 and 25 years old and come from Badhoevedorp and Amsterdam.

Earlier, the victim was called by someone posing as an employee of a fraud desk and ‘warned’ the man. According to him, there would be suspicious transactions in his bank account. He could secure his money by transferring it to a ‘safe deposit box’. Someone also had to come by to collect the bank cards.

Caught

Not much later, a suspect appeared at the victim’s home. The passes were handed over and he left. He did not trust this and went after the man. When he asked for identification, the suspect fled. He was caught with the help of a bystander on the bicycle. The police were called and arrested the 19-year-old Badhoevedorper.

Further police investigation led to three more arrests of a 21-year-old, 22-year-old and 25-year-old from Amsterdam. They are in custody and will be interrogated.
