With his victory in the third competition of the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck, Poland’s Dawid Kubacki brings some excitement back into the overall standings. Best German at Bergisel is Philipp Raimund.
The Four Hills Tournament of ski jumpers is once again exciting. Dawid Kubacki won in Innsbruck on Wednesday (January 4th, 2022) with jumps of 127 and 121.5 meters, putting pressure on Halvor Egner Granerud, who is the leader in the overall classification.
Despite a phenomenal second jump, the Norwegian, who had previously won the competitions in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, only managed second place this time (123 and 133 meters). The Slovenian Anze Lanisek (127 and 121.5 meters) was third. Before the fourth and final competition in Bischofshofen on Friday, Granerud’s lead in the overall standings is still a comfortable 23.3 points.
Raimund best DSV eagle
From a German point of view, the competition was mixed. Although five DSV eagles, Andreas Wellinger, Philipp Raimund, Pius Paschke, Constantin Schmid and Markus Eisenbichler, made it through to the second round, they did not finish in the top ten.
Youngster Raimund, who had already achieved good results with his refreshing performances on this tour, was the best German with 116.5 and 118 meters. “It makes a lot of fun“said Raimund in an interview with Sportschau after his 13th place – equivalent to his best career result so far. “I came here without any big goals. That makes the whole thing that little bit nicer. I don’t plan to do much for Bischofshofen, apart from staying with my things again.“
Eisenbichler can smile again
Wellinger also showed two solid jumps (120 and 114 meters) and ranked with “mixed feelings“ranked 18th a.”It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either. But I’m on the right track.”
Eisenbichler was also able to smile again after the disappointments of Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen when he missed the second round. “I scored again“, smiled the man from Siegsdorf after his 22nd place (117 and 116 meters). “It wasn’t optimal, but I’m going step by step. I’m satisfied that I got into the second round.”
Schmid and Paschke made it into the second round as “lucky losers”. Schmid finished 26th (117 and 114.5 meters), Paschke finished the competition in 28th place after a botched second jump (119 and 103 meters). Stephan Leyhe had lost his knockout duel against Domen Prevc.
violinist to the audience
Karl Geiger experiences jumping in the team hotel. Germany’s tour hope had to endure a bitter disappointment in qualifying the day before after he only jumped 108 meters and missed the final competition as 51st. For Geiger, who was fifth in the ranking of the Four Hills Tournament, all hopes of a good place in the overall ranking are gone.
