The fifth in the tournament ranking to date has to accept a severe setback: Karl Geiger completely botched his jump and literally fell at 108 meters – the jumping on Wednesday will take place without Karl Geiger.
Disappointed, Geiger hung his head in the outlet: with only 108 meters he was 51. ung is not in the jumping on Wednesday. For Geiger, who was fifth in the ranking of the Four Hills Tournament, all hopes of a good place in the overall ranking are gone. “You can’t put it into words – it was heftyg,” said Geiger in an interview with Sportschau. “It’s hard to say what went wrong. Unfortunately, it happened.”
I didn’t catch him at all. That was botch.
Kunacki wins qualification
Things went much better for Dawid Kubacki. The Pole won the qualification with 128 meters. Second was his compatriot Kamil Stoch (126 m). The Slovenian Anze Lanisek (121 m) secured third place. Tournament leader Halvor Egner Granerud finished 13th with 116 meters.
No DSV eagle among the top ten
Philipp Raimund remains the surprise from a German perspective on this tour. After 14th place in Oberstdorf and 15th in the New Year’s competition, the 22-year-old again showed a very good jump. His 121.5 meters were enough for eleventh place and he was the best German.
Andreas Wellinger again showed a consistently good jump and jumped 118 meters and was 15th.
For Markus Eisenbichler, World Champion 2019 on the Bergisel-Schanze, things haven’t gone according to plan so far – the Bavarian lost his knockout duels both in the opening event and in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Nevertheless, the national coach gives him confidence and lets Eisenbichler complete the tour. In less than ideal conditions, the 31-year-old landed on 117.5 meters and showed a better jump again. “The jump is still not optimal, but the take-off is slowly getting better”, said Eisenbichler, who was one place behind Wellinger.
Stephan Leyhe (17th) also made it into the top 20. Constantin Schmid (Oberaudorf) finished in 41st place, Pius Paschke (Kiefersfelden) was 45th.
