Four Hills Tournament: Form weak Eisenbichler jumps on

The six-time ski jumping world champion Markus Eisenbichler will contest the 71st Four Hills Tournament to the end despite his poor form.

“It is very clear that Markus will continue to Bischofshofen and then in the World Cup.”said national coach Stefan Horngacher on Monday (02.01.23) in Garmisch-Partenkirchen: “There is a clear goal, that is the World Championships in Planica.”

Horngacher: “He’s not far away”

Eisenbichler had missed the second round in the two competitions in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. “But he’s not far away, looks good in training”said Horngacher, “Sometimes things can go fast in ski jumping.”

Halvor Egner Granerud of Norway leads the overall standings at half time. It’s not the tour of the Germans so far – Karl Geiger and Andreas Wellinger in fifth and sixth place are already a long way behind.

After two jumps, Eisenbichler is ranked 37th in the overall ranking of the Four Hills Tournament behind the young German ski jumper Felix Hoffmann.

After Andreas Wellinger hasn’t found his form properly in recent years, his hard work is paying off this winter.

Karl Geiger is realistic about his chances at the Four Hills Tournament, but he doesn’t want to end the season for a long time.

After two tournaments, no German athlete has a chance of winning the title. Nevertheless, national coach Stefan Horngacher draws a positive interim balance.
