Four Dutchmen arrested after thud in Frankfurt, fifth escapes

After a thud attack in the German city of Frankfurt last week, four Dutch people were arrested. They are between 27 and 32 years old. A fifth suspect managed to escape. According to the Frankfurt police, they stole at least 100,000 euros when the ATM was blown up.

The thud happened in the night from Wednesday to Thursday at a bank branch on the east side of the city. The perpetrators entered the building and blew up a total of four ATMs there. Then they jumped into a fast getaway car and tried to reach the highway.

Escape route

Their escape route was blocked. At that barrier, they drove over a stick that officers had placed on the road to puncture the tires of the getaway car. Despite several flat tires, the fleeing explosive squatters tried to escape. They collided with a police car.

After a few hundred meters, the suspects jumped out of the getaway car and ran towards a forest to avoid the police. One of them succeeded. The others could be overpowered.

The four arrested Dutch people have been detained for the time being. They are suspected of attempted murder, possession of explosives and serious theft. The authorities are looking into whether they might also be linked to six other explosive attacks.
