It took more than fifteen minutes before the first real chance came. Jørgen Strand Larsen headed in well, but Yanick van Osch – who excelled against sc Heerenveen last week – turned the corner. In an otherwise very poor first half, Larsen got a few small chances and Fortuna was once dangerous with a nice drive from distance from Mats Seuntjes.
Dimitris Siovas broke open the game, which only happened in the 82nd minute. The Greek hit from close range after the Groningen defense failed to clear a corner.
With a shot from the turn, substitute Romano Postema was close to 1-1 in injury time. In the all-or-nothing offensive of the home club, goalkeeper Van Osch managed the situation skillfully.
FC Groningen – which had won the past two matches – remains eleventh in the Eredivisie.
