Fortuna Dusseldorf takes first win in August

Fortuna Düsseldorf celebrated their first victory in a month in the 2nd Bundesliga and is now back in the promotion zone for at least one night.

Coach Daniel Thioune’s team beat Jahn Regensburg 4-0 (0-0) at the start of the 6th matchday, Düsseldorf had not won three games in a row before.

Regensburg conceded the next bankruptcy after the bitter 0:6 against Karlsruher SC and has been waiting for a win for four games. Daniel Ginczek (59th), Dawid Kownacki (65th, penalty kick), Felix Klaus (78th) and Shinta Appelkamp (85th) scored for superior hosts and initially shot Fortuna to relegation rank three.

Regensburg started the game at high speed six days after the clap against KSC, but the Rhinelanders clearly took control in front of 20,745 spectators until the break. There were a few chances, but Kownacki (30th) and Klaus (43rd) were still undecided when it came to the best.

That changed in the second round. Ginczek hit the short corner powerfully, Kownacki uncompromisingly converted the penalty kick taken by Klaus, and in the final phase Ginczek’s low cross found Klaus.
