The ultra-rightists will control Festejos and will have a seat on the municipal government board
The president of Foro Asturias, Carmen Moriyón, has guaranteed his investiture as mayor of Gijón, the most populated city in Asturias, after the agreement closed with Voxwhose support was essential so that the pact sealed two days ago with the regionalists and the popular ones could go ahead.
In exchange for their support for Moriyón to face his third term as head of the Gijón city council after the hiatus of the last four years, in which the municipal government was in the hands of the socialist Ana González, Forum has given to vox the Department of Celebrations and a position on the municipal government board. As for the program, they have promised to carry out a general audit, to supervise superfluous spending, to give maximum transparency to the management of European funds and to urgently process the secularism regulation approved by the Socialists this mandate.

According to this party, the Forum has also committed to withdrawing the appeal of the Gijón City Council against the annulment of the Mobility Ordinance in order, thus, to definitively consider said ordinance annulled. Likewise, annul the mobility plan and draw up a new ordinance and a traffic plan that allows all vehicles to circulate and park, with or without environmental markings.
Both formations also commit to reduce the IBI, on equality to review the ordinance in force and participate in the designation of the person in charge of this matter, and in the linguistic field to “freeze” the promotion policies of the language no longer increase the items earmarked for that purpose.
Last Wednesday, Vox had accused Foro of refusing to reach agreements after its offer to join the agreement reached between the forum members and the PP to give Moriyón the Mayor’s Office and of trying to have the corporation end up being governed by the PSOE as the most voted. In a corporation with nine councilors from the PSOE, eight from the Forum, five from the PP, two from the IU and one from Podemos, the two Vox councilors are essential to guarantee the appointment of Moriyón by an absolute majority in the first vote, given that in a second round the position would fall to the candidate with the most votes in the municipal elections, in this case the socialist Luis Manuel Flórez.
Shortly before this Foro and Vox agreement was reached, the Board of Directors of the Popular Party of Gijón had already unanimously ratified the pact to form a joint government with the former in the Gijón City Council. The Gijón PSOE, for its part, has once again appealed for responsibility to “prevent the ultra-right from imposing its policies of regression, denial and sectarianism” and to support the list with the most votes in the May 28 elections.
