The FIA ​​World Council has officially voted on the new calendar for the 2024 Formula E season. In the tenth year of the category’s history, there are two new features and two changes compared to the first draft already communicated at the beginning of the summer: on the one hand there is the confirmation of the appointment in India in Hyderabad, which therefore returns to the list after being temporarily excluded; on the other, the China’s return in styleabsent since 2019 (the 2020 Sanya E-prix was canceled due to the pandemic), with the Shanghai international circuit – already used for Formula 1, but probably in a different configuration – which will host for the first time the electric circus.

As regards the changes to the draft already presented at the end of June, there is more than a few concerns about the Rome stage: while the official calendar still confirms two E-prixes in Italy scheduled for 13 and 14 April 2024, the EUR circuit no longer appears. The reason is linked to the fact that, last season, the Capitoline track appeared less suitable for the new Gen3 single-seaters, which are much faster than those of the previous generation, and this would have pushed the organizers of the World Championship to look for alternative solutions. In this case, “even on permanent circuits in order to maintain the Italian appointment”, we read in the note published by Formula E.

The last real change is instead linked to the Jakarta stage, for the moment excluded from the calendar due to logistical problems caused by the Indonesian presidential elections which will be held in conjunction with the Eprix. However, the Tokyo event remains confirmed which, on March 30th, will bring the electric single-seaters to race in Japan for the first time. Curious is the fact that, with the current calendar, Formula E is the first motorsport category to race in one year in the three most populous countries in the world: China, India and United States (the race in Portland is confirmed for 29 June 2024).
