Oranje boven in Formula 2 too: Richard Verschoor (Trident) celebrated his second win of the season in Spielberg in a turbulent race on a drying track. It’s supposed to get even louder in the afternoon, when world champion Max Verstappen will start the Formula 1 race (3 p.m. / Sky) from pole position.
Verschoor only started the race from eighth place, thanks to the best choice of tires he won ahead of Jehan Daruvala (India/Prema) and Logan Sargeant (USA/Carlin). “It’s crazy, everything is already orange,” said Verschoor, “I hope Max still wins this afternoon.”
The two title contenders Felipe Drugovich (Brazil/MP Motorsport) and Theo Pourchaire (France/ART) gambled and missed out on the points. At the beginning of the race, part of the field was still on rain tires, but the track dried out quickly.
Despite everything, Drugovich (154 points) continues to lead the overall classification clearly ahead of Pourchaire (114). The French now expect a home game on 23./24. July we go to Le Castellet.
