After the Silverstone and Spielberg Grands Prix, the Formula 1 Europe Weeks continue. The race weekend in France is on the agenda for the next few days, before the Hungarian Grand Prix on the Sunday after (31 July). In the run-up to the double pack, Haas team boss Günther Steiner explained why the races in Le Castellet and Budapest are likely to be particularly demanding.
In the exclusive RTL/ntv interview, the South Tyrolean described the midsummer weather conditions as a major challenge for teams and drivers: “The next race will be very special. It will be very hot. And Hungary is (also) looking very hot at the moment. We’ll have to see how the car reacts,” said Steiner.
According to current forecasts, the Formula 1 organizers expect air temperatures of up to 34 degrees in Le Castellet next weekend. In Budapest even up to 40 degrees are possible a week later.
According to Steiner, the Haas cars “usually had no problem with overheating” in the past. Nevertheless, hot races always place special demands on both the driver and the material.
Steiner hopes for the next top ten placements with Haas
For the forthcoming race on the Circuit Paul Ricard on Sunday (from 3:00 p.m.), Steiner hopes to be able to finish in the top ten again with at least one of the two Haas cars.
“I would be happy with points. With both cars in the points it will be difficult, but if we have even one car in the points we can continue well”; according to the 57-year-old.
Most recently, Mick Schumacher in particular, with his eighth place at Silverstone and sixth place in Spielberg, ensured great respectable successes with the US constructor.
Günther Steiner stated that he wanted to work on his own consistency throughout the team as another major goal for the coming weeks: “We are known for this rollercoaster ride. Up and down again and again. That’s why we’ve gotten used to it That’s how it is. But hopefully we’ll stay at the top of the roller coaster for as long as possible.”
