Formula 1 stars Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc are currently contractually bound to Scuderia Ferrari until the end of 2024. Recently, however, there have been repeated rumors about an early departure from the Reds, especially around Sainz – but now things are going to be completely different.
An official announcement in which Ferrari will announce the extension with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc beyond 2024 should come “soon”. That’s what “Quotidiano Sportivo” wants to know.
The duo is currently fighting for second place in the constructors’ championship in the premier motorsport class. After a good performance at the last race in Las Vegas, Ferrari is now only separated by four points from Mercedes (392 points) before the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
In the drivers’ standings, Sainz (200 points) has to try to defend fourth place, while Leclerc is only in seventh place with 188 points.
The Scuderia should still be confident that the duo will have a real chance of winning the world championship in the coming years.
Lots of rumors about Carlos Sainz
Should there actually be an early extension, the rumors about Sainz leaving the Italian racing team would probably be history. For months it has been repeatedly claimed, especially in the Spanish press, that Ferrari sees Leclerc as number one but is not completely convinced by Sainz.
The Spanish online newspaper “El Nacional” recently brought Sainz into discussion with Alpine and even Red Bull, among others. Michael Andretti is also said to have his eye on the Spaniard. The former racing driver plans to enter Formula 1 as the eleventh team with the help of the US car manufacturer General Motors, ideally the year after next.
Sainz may have improved his cards by being the only non-Red Bull driver to win a race in 2023. A circumstance that apparently also convinced Ferrari.
