If you don’t know the Netflix series “Drive to Survive”, let me tell you: Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has a huge property in England. So what does Horner do after the Formula 1 race at Silverstone? Just invite all drivers to a barbecue – and achieve a considerable participation quota.
“I invited all the drivers to a barbecue at my house last night,” revealed Horner: “You could see how they immediately talked about moments on the track. The eyes shine when they talk about what’s going on here and there happened, also in Formula 3 or even in karting.”
Formula 1: “Much respect” between Verstappen and Norris
Among other things, Horner wanted to see lively conversations between world champion Max Verstappen and McLaren driver Lanod Norris. “There is a lot of respect between the two,” said the “Bulls” team boss.
Appropriately, the English “Telegraph” published pictures showing Red Bull consultant Marko in conversation with Mark Berryman – Norris’ manager. Speculations quickly ran rampant that Red Bull could consider signing the 25-year-old to get rid of the recently weak Sergio Perez next year.
Horner’s barbecue party was not a total success. He was asked whether all the drivers had come. Answer: “No, no, about half the grid.” You don’t have to be a mouse to think that Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton – a self-confessed vegan anyway – turned down the invitation.
‘Incredible’ record for Red Bull
Horner commented on the wave of success of his racing team, which has equaled McLaren’s record from 1988 with eleven wins in a row. “It’s an incredible record. McLaren did it in 1988 with the McLaren-Honda and Senna and Prost. To have achieved that is a testament to the team’s hard work, dedication, reliability and strategy. It’s hard to beat a to win a Grand Prix.”
According to Horner, the fact that Verstappen set the record at Silverstone last weekend was special. “The Milton Keynes factory is only 15 miles up the hill. The team can be extremely proud to have achieved this result here.”
