On Wednesday, the French motorsport brand Alpine Racing let the cat out of the bag: Mick Schumacher will be one of six drivers for the Alpine Endurance Team in the WEC World Endurance Championship in 2024. After more than a year of involuntary break as a regular driver for a racing team, it is the Schumi son’s return to the big motorsport stage.
The first details about the 24-year-old’s new project have now been leaked. According to information from sport.de and RTL/ntv set the first dates when Mick Schumacher will be seen in his new car, the hypercar from Alpine Racing.
A first intensive test drive is planned for mid-December this year. Schumacher had previously taken a seat in the Alpine A424_Beta for the first time in October – the vehicle that will compete in the Endurance World Championship from 2024. By the way, testing is taking place in Portimao, but the exact day remained unknown until recently.
Which date, however? sport.de-Information has already been determined, the launch date of the final version of the Alpine A424 is: The hypercar is to be presented to the public on February 7th, with which Mick Schumacher will then tackle the WEC as one of six drivers in the team.
As is well known, Mick Schumacher will also remain in Formula 1 next year. His contract as a test and reserve driver at Mercedes has been extended until the end of 2024, as was also confirmed on Wednesday.
The sporting highlight of the 2024 WEC season will be the 24 Hours of Le Mans on the weekend of June 15th and 16th.
