Spanish racing driver Marta Garcia won the inaugural season of the F1 Academy women’s racing series.
During the supporting program of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Austin, USA, the 23-year-old won the first of three races and was thus crowned champion. In addition to the Prema driver, the British Abbi Pulling from Rodin and ART driver Lena Bühler from Switzerland were on the podium. For Garcia it was the seventh win of the season.
The F1 Academy followed the W-Series and is a racing series for women only. It should enable them to get into Formula 1.
F1 Academy driver Bianca Bustamente, for example, was the first woman to be accepted into the driver development program of the traditional McLaren racing team as part of the US GP. Garcia may have caused a stir among the F1 teams with her strong performances and the title.
In the coming season, the drivers will take part in seven race weekends. Driving takes place on the Formula 1 tracks in Saudi Arabia, Miami, Spain, the Netherlands, Singapore, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. The Spaniard will start as defending champion.
