World Champion Max Verstappen is about to reach the next milestone in his Formula 1 career. At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the Dutchman can make history and set another record. Much to the chagrin of Sebastian Vettel, from whom he would take the record.
With his four world titles, Sebastian Vettel is still clearly ahead in the duel with Max Verstappen. In some statistics, however, the Dutchman has long since overtaken the Heppenheimer. At the upcoming race in Baku, the reigning world champion now has the chance to wrestle the title of Red Bull driver with the most podiums from Vettel.
Verstappen’s third place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix was the 65th race in which the Dutchman was on the podium for the team. Vettel, who drove for the Red Bulls from 2009 to 2014, has the same number.
If Verstappen also finishes in the top three in Baku, he would be the most successful Red Bull driver of all time in this category.
A small beauty spot remains, however, because while Vettel clinched his 65 podiums for Red Bull in just 111 races, it took Verstappen 125 grands prix to reach that mark.
Next Vettel record in sight
When it comes to Grand Prix victories for Red Bull Racing, the German is also clearly ahead. He took a total of 38 first places for his former racing team, and Verstappen has 24 successes ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2022. It seems inevitable that the Dutchman will break this record.
Max Verstappen has already immortalized himself several times in the record books of the premier class. To date, he is the driver with the most podiums in a season (18, 2021), the youngest debutant in Formula 1 (17 years and 163 days) and the youngest Grand Prix winner of all time (18 years and 228 days).
