Formula 1 | Mick Schumacher makes a full-bodied promise: “… only then am I satisfied”

After the promising impressions of the test drives, Mick Schumacher started the 2022 Formula 1 season with a powerful tailwind, but the first four races were sobering for the Haas driver. Nevertheless, the 23-year-old has not lost his optimism – and makes a special promise.

The chance of Mick Schumacher’s first World Cup points in Imola was recently greater than ever. With tenth on the grid, the German even started in the top ten, but after just two corners the dream was basically over.

At the start, the son of F1 legend Michael Schumacher spun into the gravel bed in wet conditions and lost contact so early. Another setback for the Haas driver, who, measured against the new potential of his car, has been one of the losers of the season so far.

A few days before the Miami GP, Schumacher announced in an interview with “Sport Bild” that he did not want to be thrown off track by the recent setbacks.

“The points will come,” prophesied the German hopeful, who can already see clear progress in his debut year: “Last year we didn’t have a competitive car, so points weren’t possible. Luckily it’s different now. The points are in every race possible.”

Formula 1: Schumacher ennobles Magnussen

In the medium to long term, Mick Schumacher is striving for something higher anyway. “As long as you’re not first, things can always go better. Only then am I satisfied,” revealed the 23-year-old.

An important incentive is his new teammate Kevin Magnussen, who, unlike his predecessor Nikita Mazepin, is a top-level driver and has clearly dominated the internal duel so far.

“The teammate is always the first driver you want to beat. Kevin takes me to a new level. Not just because of the competition, but also with his experience,” Schumacher ennobled the Dane, but at the same time formulated a declaration of war: “I’m me sure I can keep up with Kevin.”
