Mick Schumacher is currently one of those racing drivers in Formula 1 who do not yet have a cockpit for 2023. Although there are still several options for the 23-year-old, the door at the AlphaTauri racing team is currently closed, as team boss Franz Tost made clear in an interview with RTL / ntv. Nevertheless, the 66-year-old was enthusiastic about Schumacher’s qualities (the video opens in the picture above).
According to the current status, Mick Schumacher’s contract with the US team Haas ends at the end of the year. Only if he scores more points for his employer in the coming races will he be offered a third year in the Haas. His next opportunity to increase his current haul of twelve points is at the Belgian Grand Prix (Sunday, 3:00 p.m.).
However, the son of F1 legend Michael Schumacher is not a candidate for AlphaTauri’s competition for 2023, as Franz Tost clarified in the exclusive RTL / ntv interview. “At the present time” the driver duo consists of Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda, the former racing driver emphasized, Schumacher is currently not playing a role in the thoughts. As for the future, “I don’t know either,” Tost added.
Tost hopes Schumacher will remain in Formula 1
Nevertheless, he wishes Schumacher to “stay in Formula 1”. The Haas driver is “much better than many believe. He didn’t win Formula 3 and Formula 2 for nothing. You can’t do that if you don’t have good speed”. If it is up to the AlphaTauri team boss, “Mick is currently underestimated”.
In addition, Schumacher “learned a lot” in his second year in the premier class of motorsport. He rates him “as a very talented driver”.
From afar, Franz Tost did not want to go into detail about the criticism of Mick Schumacher’s team boss Günther Steiner’s tough management style that had come up in the past few months. Working with the drivers is “always situational” and “no global answer” can be given.
Steiner had publicly criticized Schumacher after several self-inflicted accidents in the first half of the season. However, the pressure on the F1 driver eased after good performances in Canada, Great Britain and Austria.
