Formula 1 racing team Red Bull dominates the 2023 season at will. That’s entirely up to Max Verstappen, according to McLaren team boss Zak Brown. Sergio Perez, on the other hand, does not have a large part in the success.
Zak Brown from Formula 1 competitor McLaren has a clear opinion about the Red Bull team.
“As much as Red Bull is winning everything at the moment … it’s actually Max who is dominating everything at the moment,” Brown said before the Dutch Grand Prix (August 27) on ESPN: “This combination of Max and Red Bull is unbeatable at the moment and Max and the team don’t make mistakes.”
The 51-year-old couldn’t resist a dig at Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez: “If you had two Sergios in the car, the championship would be pretty open, with all due respect.” It’s just the interaction between Verstappen and Red Bull “something very special”.
McLaren Team Principal: “If you take Max out…”
The Austrian team has won every Grand Prix this year so far, with Max Verstappen alone having won ten of the twelve races so far. The other two, in Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan, were won by Sergio Perez.
The Mexican, although he is second behind the two-time world champion with 189 points, has been repeatedly criticized. Since his contract with the Bulls only runs until 2024, there is increasing speculation that there will soon be a change in the driver constellation. Recently, of all things, Lando Norris from McLaren was brought into play as a possible successor. The Brit was able to take second place in both England and Hungary this year.
His team boss Brown meanwhile illustrated Verstappen’s dominance with a very special mind game: “If you take out Max and give everyone who finished second this year a win, it would be a pretty competitive, exciting championship.”
