The weather
Yesterday it was under land in Canada and rain is not out of the question for the rest of the weekend either. But that shouldn’t be an issue for the first training session. Currently there are only a few clouds in the sky and the track temperature is 39 degrees. The air has warmed up to 25 degrees.

The distance
The Canada race will be driven on the 4.361 kilometer “Circuit Gilles Villeneuve”. The course is located on the island of Notre Dame, in the middle of the imposing St. Lawrence River and challenges the drivers with numerous full-throttle sections. 14 curves await the drivers. The course is famous for the ‘wall of champions’ in the last corner before the finish.

Schumacher under pressure
Mick Schumacher finds himself in a difficult position. The Haas youngster has made many mistakes this season and is well behind Kevin Magnussen in the team duel. So points are urgently needed for the German, but with Canada there is an unknown track waiting and the Haas team is slowly noticing that, unlike the other teams, they have not yet had any major updates in the car. Finally, the Haas cars drove behind the field.

Perennial theme bouncing
The images of Hamilton climbing heavily out of his cockpit in Baku fueled the debate about bouncing. In the current racing cars, the cars are exposed to many impacts due to the high contact pressure. Now the FIA reacted and issued a directive against bouncing. The design of the subfloors and the sanding blocks as well as their wear will be closely monitored in the future. In addition, there should be a limit that defines the maximum strength of the hits allowed. Ferrari and Mercedes in particular are the racing teams that struggled the most with the bouncing of the cars.

Ferrari under pressure
Ferrari is the big top dog this season in terms of qualifying. The Italians were on pole in six of eight Formula 1 weekends. But in the end there was little reason to be happy. Charles Leclerc suffered two engine failures and lost many points in the world championship due to tactical errors in Monaco. In Baku there was even a double failure to complain about. It goes without saying that Maranello is now on alert. Ferrari has to find a solution, especially in terms of reliability, if Leclerc is not to lose touch in the World Cup. There could also be a penalty this weekend if Leclerc switches to a new turbo.
