Formula 1 legend has “a lot of pity for Mick”

Everything currently indicates that Mick Schumacher’s time at Haas will soon be up. The US racing team is said to want to officially announce its decision before the season finale in Abu Dhabi, with Nico Hulkenberg already having a successor ready. Formula 1 legend Rubens Barrichello follows the events with mixed feelings.

After two years, the liaison between Mick Schumacher and Haas will probably come to an end. The results were too disappointing for both sides, the financial damage for the racing team was too great after many serious accidents.

The sparrows are already whistling from the rooftops that Schumacher’s German compatriot Nico Hülkenberg will take over the Haas cockpit from 2023. A clever choice, according to Rubens Barrichello.

As part of the “Sky” show “Any Driven Monday”, the Brazilian sang a true song of praise for his former teammate.

“Hulk is a really good driver for me. He impressed me a lot – not only when we were at Williams together,” Barrichello emphasized.

Formula 1: Barrichello has “a lot of pity for Mick”

He was particularly impressed by Hülkenberg’s ability to step in with full focus in the shortest possible time when he is needed as a reserve pilot.

“He was signed for Silverstone at the last minute. And if you don’t drive in Formula 1, it’s not easy, even if you go to the gym and keep fit,” Barrichello explained. But Hülkenberg simply jumped into the car and was immediately “extremely fast”.

Therefore, the native of Emmerich “deserved” the chance, even if he had “a lot of sympathy for Mick”, continued Barrichello. The former Ferrari driver wished the son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher that one day he would have “another opportunity in a competitive car”.
