Jeddah (dpa) – Formula 1 driver Pierre Gasly was only able to finish the second race of the season in Saudi Arabia under physical agony.
“From my side, the last 15 laps were really difficult, I had some pain in my gut and it was really difficult to race,” said the French Alpha Tauri driver after the Jeddah Grand Prix. The 26-year-old was quoted as saying by specialist media that it was the “most painful” laps “of my entire career”: “I don’t know what happened to my intestines. But I died in the car, I screamed in pain and was just glad the race is done.”
Gasly finished eighth in the victory of world champion Max Verstappen in the Red Bull. In the end, he always had the feeling “as if someone was stabbing me in the intestines,” said the winner of the 2020 Italian Grand Prix. Gasly underwent a medical examination after the race, but the results are not yet known.
