Formula 1 | Haas team boss reveals: Mattia Binotto promises “bomb” engine from Ferrari

After the best Haas season since 2018, team boss Günther Steiner is confident about the future. With Kevin Magnussen and “newcomer” Nico Hülkenberg, the US team wants to take the next step.

The Ferrari engine should also help. Since the debut season, Haas has been getting the power unit from the proud Italians.

In the coming season, this should be “outstanding”. Günther Steiner revealed this in an interview on the sidelines of the Lorenzo Bandini Prize ceremony: “On Thursday I met Mattia Binotto and he told me that the engine for the next season will be a bomb.”

Formula 1 season 2022 gives Steiner hope

“There is a lot of support for Ferrari in Emilia Romagna. And if the engine is competitive, that will also be positive for us,” Steiner continued.

For Haas, it would be the logical next step. After two particularly weak years in 2020 and 2021, the team and the car showed themselves to be significantly improved this year.

Overall, Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher collected 37 points. More than 2019, 2020 and 2021 combined. Added to this is the Dane’s sensational pole position in qualifying in the rain in Brazil.

Steiner is optimistic about the future

Steiner also looks back positively on the past season: “We see it as a year of growth. Magnussen gave us a pole position that was not in the plans, and we want to keep growing in 2023. The goal is to be in the To make another step up in the table, always fighting for points and one day to be on the podium.”

A good engine, like the one Mattia Binotto promised Günther Steiner, would of course help with this goal. By the end of the month at the latest, Steiner will have to get his information from another Ferrari team boss.

At the end of November, Ferrari announced that Binotto would leave the group after more than 28 years. A successor has not yet been determined.
