Former Formula 1 driver Wilson Fittipaldi died in São Paulo at the age of 80. The Brazilian Automobile Association CBA announced the death of the Brazilian, older brother of two-time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi.
Wilson Fittipaldi had choked on a piece of meat at Christmas dinner the previous year and had been in the hospital ever since; his health was poor. Now he fell asleep peacefully, the message said.
In the 1970s, Fittipaldi competed in 35 Grands Prix and collected three World Championship points. Wilson and Emerson Fittipaldi were the first brothers to score points in the same Formula 1 race. Wilson Fittipaldi’s son Cristian drove in the premier class from 1992 to 1994.
