Although the material of the teams is almost equally good, Red Bull is now clearly ahead of Ferrari in the fight for the Formula 1 World Championship. Ex-driver Pedro de la Rosa is convinced: The Scuderia now only has one chance to prevent the Austrians from triumphing.
Charles Leclerc is now 63 points behind Max Verstappen. The Drivers’ World Championship has not yet been decided, but one thing is clear: If Monegasse and Ferrari still want to dethrone the competition, they must not make any more mistakes. And that is definitely a problem, because at the same time the Scuderia have to take a higher risk from now on in order to be able to reduce the gap at all.
“Ferrari has to be more aggressive from now on. The only way to stop Max is to win one-two for Charles and Carlos in the next races. If they don’t do that, the title is lost,” ex-Formula 1 driver Pedro de la drew Rose in conversation with the portal “racingnews365” a grim scenario for the Scuderia.
According to de la Rosa, the problem is not only the 63 points, which in themselves are difficult to make up for. “They are fighting against Verstappen and Red Bull. They have a similarly strong package as Ferrari, but are more reliable. That’s why it will be very difficult for Ferrari to catch up on these points,” the ex-driver sees all the trumps in the “Red Bulls”.
Red Bull has this advantage in the fight for the Formula 1 World Championship
But the problems for Ferrari don’t stop there, because: “With a 63-point lead, Red Bull can now play it safe.” For example, according to de la Rosa, Red Bull does not have to use the material to the full and can choose certain races for an engine change: “And then, despite a starting penalty, you know that you will be in the top 5.” Ferrari doesn’t have that luxury.
“Red Bull can only lose the title through failures,” the former Formula 1 driver is convinced. The Austrians also benefit from the fact that they only have to deal with Ferrari: “The gap to the other teams is huge. Mercedes is a little closer, but Red Bull could still score a lot of points even after a grid penalty.”
The occupation of the second cockpit also speaks for the Austrians, explained the ex-driver: “Sergio Pérez is a good team player who will definitely be there and will fill his role perfectly.”
