Formula 2 champion Felipe Drugovich is promoted to Formula 1 – albeit initially only as a reserve driver. Sebastian Vettel’s Aston Martin team announced on Monday that it would add the 22-year-old Brazilian to its driver pool.
In addition, they intend to use Drugovich at the season finale in Abu Dhabi in November in the first free practice session and in the so-called Young Driver Test after the last race of the season.
In 2023, Drugovich will then complete an extensive test program at the wheel of the 2021 Aston Martin and take part in selected Grands Prix as a team member. Regular drivers in the coming season are former world champion Fernando Alonso (Spain) and the Canadian Lance Stroll.
As the title winner, Drugovich will no longer be allowed to start in Formula 2 next year.
