Team owner Stroll posed in an interview with the magazine “Maxim” It is clear that as the most important decision-maker in the British racing team, he would have been only too happy to continue working with the 35-year-old, who drove for Aston Martin in the premier class of motorsport for a total of two years.

“I would like to thank Sebastian from the bottom of my heart for the great work he has done for the Aston Martin team over the past year and a half. We made it clear to him that we would have liked to keep him on the team. But in the end he did done what he thinks is right for himself and his family, and of course we respect that,” said the 63-year-old in the interview.

Vettel has been a teammate of Lance Stroll, son of owner Lawrence Stroll, since the 2021 season in Formula 1. Currently seventh in the constructors’ championship, Aston Martin is still lagging behind its own claims, but Vettel has nevertheless achieved nine top ten results in the current calendar year.

Stroll caused a stir with Alonso signing

In the coming season, Stroll definitely wants to take the next step in development with his team and caused a sensation not least with the commitment of ex-world champion Fernando Alonso as Vettel’s successor.

“I set out to bring together the best people and develop the right resources and organizations to thrive in this highly competitive sport. Those plans continue to take shape. It therefore seemed natural to invite Fernando Alonso to be part of the development of a successful one teams,” said Stroll, who joined what was then Team Force India as an investor in 2018.

In the joint talks with Alonso, he “found out very quickly that we have the same ambitions and values, and it was logical and easy to confirm our desire to work together.”
