A few days ago, Formula 1 returnee Sergio Pérez took a tough stance against his ex-employer Red Bull Racing in an interview. Juan Pablo Montoya thinks: Checo has overshot the mark and should better look after his own nose.
When Sergio Pérez spoke about his time at Red Bull Racing on the “CRACKS” podcast a few days ago, he hardly spoke well of his former employer. As Max Verstappen’s teammate, he had the “worst job” in Formula 1. “Everything” has become a problem there. Above all, he himself, who, in his opinion, was given the role of the scapegoat.
If Juan Pablo Montoya has his way, Checo’s statements should not be seen as legitimate criticism, but rather as a nasty and unjustified insult.
Red Bull gave Pérez “many opportunities”
“If you look at it from the perspective of a Mexican Pérez fan, you could say that Red Bull didn’t treat him fairly. But it’s like he said himself: he knew what he was getting into. Unfair or not, Red Bull helped him to five wins. How much can he complain then?” Montoya said in his podcast.
“In the end he can complain about the fact that the car was sometimes undriveable. But there were also a lot of good things. Red Bull gave him a lot of opportunities. And if he felt comfortable in the car, he did an excellent job,” said the former Formula 1 driver.
Small consolation for Pérez: In the end, the story had a good ending for him. After a year on the Formula 1 bench, he signed a contract with newcomer Cadillac, where he can prove alongside Valtteri Bottas in 2026 that he is better than his mixed Red Bull results suggest.
