He served as captain for EHC Waldkraiburg for a long time. Now ex-ice hockey player Peter Richter has died in an accident.
Mourning for ex-ice hockey player Peter Richter: The 40-year-old former captain of EHC Waldkraiburg died in a skiing accident in North America last weekend. The club announced this on its Facebook profile.
“We cannot express in words how incredibly sad we are,” the “Lions” wrote in a statement. As the team’s long-time captain, Richter was “THE face of Waldkraiburg ice hockey in recent history.” “Our deepest condolences go out to his wife Jenny as well as to his parents and the rest of the family,” the club continued. “If anyone deserves to never be forgotten, it’s you, Peter,” it concludes.
Over 600 appearances in eleven seasons
Richter started his career at Starbulls Rosenheim and finally moved to Waldkraiburg in 2003. In eleven seasons he was on the ice for the “Lions” over 600 times.
Out of respect for the deceased, the Waldkraiburgers wore a mourning ribbon on the last matchday of the national ice hockey league against ESV Waldkrichen. Captain Nico Vogl also did without the “C” on his jersey. In the end, the “Lions” won 7:6 after extra time. “A lot of love and respect goes out to the boys, as well as coach Jürgen Lederer, who, under these circumstances, put their hearts on the ice for Peter,” it said on the Waldkraiburger profile afterwards.
