The former President of the Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL), Michael Evers, has been awarded the Cross of Merit with Ribbon for his voluntary work in German volleyball. The league announced this on Friday. The award represents the Federal Republic’s highest recognition for services to the common good.

“I am very happy about this recognition, but I would like to state that it does not honor an individual work, but is an award for everyone who has worked in the background on the same goals as a representative of the voluntary commitment in volleyball,” said Evers, who already March was made an honorary member of the German Volleyball Association (DVV).

Evers was President of the VBL from 2014 until last year. At club level, he continues to work for the volleyball team of the twelve-time German champions SSC Palmberg Schwein as sport manager.
