Cyclist Matthijs Büchli did not finish his first race after his switch from the track. In the second stage of the Challenge Mallorca he dismounted for the last climb. “It went pretty well until the run-up to the last climb,” said Büchli.
“That went so fast. I had hoped that I would have to unload on the climb”, says the somewhat disappointed Santpoorter from Mallorca. The stage was won by Biniam Girmay followed by Ryan Gibbons and Giacomo Nizzolo. On Sunday he will ride another stage at the Challenge Mallorca. On paper, the course of that match should suit him more.
Büchli caused a furore in track cycling. He announced in December that he was going to make the switch to road cycling. Then he told me that his first races would be in Mallorca. His first big goal is Olympia’s Tour in March.
After the Challenge Mallorca, the North Hollander will go on an altitude internship in Colombia.
