Former top executives Blatter and Platini acquitted of corruption

Former top football executives Michel Platini and Sepp Blatter have been acquitted for their role in a corruption case. The Swiss court ruled that there was no fraud involved in carrying out a suspicious transaction, for which the Frenchman and the Swiss were on trial. Blatter was president of the world football association FIFA for many years, Platini of the European football union UEFA.

In 2011, Platini received a payment of 1.8 million euros as director of the European football union UEFA. According to Blatter, Platini was entitled to this because of work performed.
