Former ÖFB team player Volkan Kahraman died at the age of 43

Made three internationals

Volkan Kahraman passed away at the age of 43. This was confirmed by his ex-clubs FK Austria Wien and Favoritner AC. The former ÖFB team player was the victim of an act of violence in Vienna-Simmering on Wednesday morning. Kahraman’s relatives have asked for privacy about the exact circumstances.

The Austro-Turk took an unusual path and began his professional career in the Netherlands, where he made his debut with Feyenoord and later moved on to city rivals Excelsior. After a brief engagement in Turkey, he returned to his home country in 2001, where he made his breakthrough at ASKÖ Pasching: with the second division team he was promoted to the Bundesliga at the end of the 2001/02 season, shortly thereafter he made his debut in the national team in August 2002, for which he played three times until November of the same year.

In January 2003, Kahraman went to Wiener Austria, where he celebrated his greatest career success by winning the Bundesliga championship at the end of the season. He then played for Austria Salzburg, LASK and again for Pasching before his professional career ended in 2006 at the age of 26 with a move to the Ostliga in Schwadorf. After his playing days, Kahraman also worked as a trainer in said league, for Simmering and Karabakh, among others. Most recently, he trained Ostbahn until the end of last season.
