Former NPO director Klein engages a lawyer to report on abuses | Show

Former NPO director Frans Klein has hired a lawyer in the run-up to the publication of the Van Rijn committee report on social safety at the NPO. Lawyer Geert-Jan Knoops confirmed this to the ANP after reporting in de Volkskrant and NRC. Knoops said that he had objected to passages from the report on behalf of his client.

The criminal lawyer did not want to say prior to the presentation of the report which passages were involved, and whether his objection caused a delay in the publication of the report being postponed several times. He will provide a statement later in the day. He does indicate that prior access was ‘very limited’. Klein left the NPO last year and is now working at Talpa. According to NRC and the Volkskrant also has former DWDDpresenter Matthijs van Nieuwkerk called in a lawyer after inspecting the report. His spokesperson did not want to confirm this on Thursday. The presenter, now employed by RTL, previously indicated that he would provide a response on Thursday after studying the report.

The Investigative Committee for Broadcasting Conduct and Culture (OGCO) of former politician Martin van Rijn will share the report on social safety at the public broadcaster in Hilversum on Thursday morning. The investigation was initiated after the Volkskrant published an article in 2022 about alleged transgressive behavior by Van Nieuwkerk and the work culture at DWDD. Klein was director of broadcaster BNNVARA at that time DWDD made. The investigation was expanded after the Volkskrant article, because several reports were received about the public broadcaster.
