Former Northern Netherlands police chief Janny Knol becomes head of the National Police

Janny Knol, former police chief of the Northern Netherlands department, will become the new police chief. As of March 1, 2024, she will succeed current police chief Henk van Essen.

54-year-old Knol was deputy police chief of the northern provinces from 2019 to 2022. She was born in Rotterdam and took her first steps as an agent in Deventer. She is currently active as police chief in the East of the Netherlands.

Knol says she is looking forward to her new challenge. “I am taking this step from my blue heart. As chief of police I would like to contribute to developing and innovating the force so that we are prepared for the future.”
