Former national coach Jürgen Klinsmann will be the new national coach of South Korea. This was confirmed by the South Korean association.

For Klinsmann it is the third job as national coach. From summer 2004 to summer 2006 he looked after the German national team – including at the home World Cup almost 17 years ago. From July 2011 to November 2016, the now 58-year-old ex-professional was the US national coach.

Successor to Paulo Bento

Klinsmann succeeds Paulo Bento. The Portuguese had announced his resignation as coach of the South Koreans after the knockout round against Brazil at the last World Cup in Qatar. At the beginning of January, the South Korean association promoted 57-year-old Michael Müller, who used to work in the youth team of the German Football Association (DFB), to technical director.

At club level, ex-national striker Klinsmann worked until February 2020 as a coach for the Berlin Bundesliga club Hertha BSC.
