Housing corporation Actium is having the old police station in Meppel demolished to create social housing. The new homes will be located on the site of the building on Eendrachtstraat.
By making this location habitable, the housing corporation hopes to contribute to the municipality’s opportunities for growth.
According to Rob Hoogeveen of Actium, the housing corporation focuses on building life-resistant apartments, but starter apartments are also possible.
The municipality of Meppel still has to adjust the zoning plan for the place, but according to alderman Van Ulzen that should not be a problem. “As a municipality, we would like to see social rental housing being developed at this location. I am therefore pleased that Actium has bought the former police station,” said the alderman.
According to Actium, there will be between 54 and 65 apartments. The first sketch should be ready early next year. In the coming year, the property will still be managed by an anti-squat manager.
The Meppel police station had been empty since June last year and was for sale since May this year.
