Former member of Ostend hip-hop gang RAW13 risks years in prison for partner violence

The facts took place in April last year. The defendant assaulted his girlfriend on the street in Ostend. Witnesses determined that he threw several punches and kicks, even when the victim was already on the ground.

Laundry list of crimes

Both people involved later refused to be questioned by the police. The Public Prosecution Service noted that the defendant was definitely not ready for his test piece. The man has already been caught in the past for theft, beatings, drugs, rebellion, threats and vandalism.

Most of the convictions are related to his period with the then hip-hop gang RAW13. Four gang members were convicted in February 2015 of murder and two attempted murders in the Torhout entertainment district. The Ostend resident was heard as a witness at that trial.

Under the influence of drugs

The defense argued that the turbulent relationship is now going better. It was also noted that the defendant and his girlfriend were both under the influence of drugs that day. In his last word, the defendant stated that he basically no longer uses drugs.

The chairman expressed her doubts about his claim that he can kick the habit without supervision. Finally, the judge pointed out to him several times that he was asleep a few times during the hearing. The judge will rule on June 1.
