Dennis van der Geest is quite disappointing with the second season of his TV show Million Dollar Island. A sequel to this show now seems really out of the question: a downer for the former judoka.
It is always extremely irritating for Dennis van der Geest when he is described in the media as a former judoka. He wants to be the celebrated presenter. The only problem is that the viewing figures that justify that are not forthcoming. Also yesterday he did not exceed 373 thousand viewers (7 percent market share) on SBS 6.
‘Much too little’
How does Tina Nijkamp, the former channel boss of SBS 6, view this? She writes on her ratings juice channel: “Million Dollar Island only has 373 thousand viewers left in the third week. Last week the program already dipped below 400 thousand viewers (393 thousand), but now even less.”
She continues: “Even lower in the commercial target group aged 20 to 54: 7.6 percent. That is far too little. In comparison: the much cheaper VI scores around 14 to 19 percent.”
Not to the US
Tina suspects that John de Mol gave this show a second chance in the hope of selling it to the United States. “But it doesn’t look like this program will ever be sold to the USA again. Because even postponed, it is ‘only’ watched by 200 thousand people. For comparison: Who is the Mole by at least 800,000 people.”
She concludes: “And so the second season of this program is not yet a success for SBS 6, Dennis van der Geest and John de Mol.”
SBS exit Dennis?
Does this also mean Dennis’ SBS exit? Not yet. The presenter, who is currently under fire for cheating, is working on the new love program The Prince with the White Hair.
Candidates of at least seventy years old go in search of a new love. According to Talpa, the program is already in the making. “As soon as we can report more, we will come back to it.”
