Olympic champion Tabea Kemme demands that the women’s Bundesliga be organized and marketed by the German Football League in future.
“It would simplify a lot if the women’s Bundesliga were under the umbrella of the DFL and isolated itself from the DFB,” said the 30-year-old in an interview with the news portal “t-online” on the sidelines of the EM in England. So far, the highest division of soccer players has been under the umbrella of the German Football Association (DFB), while that of men has been with the DFL for a long time.
“My appeal: Get out of the DFB!”
“Women’s football is a product that has a certain value. We want to increase this value so that we can say: ‘This is a great league.’ But that’s not working at the moment,” explained ex-national player Kemme, who used to be with Turbine Potsdam and FC Arsenal under contract. “Therefore my appeal: Get out of the DFB!”
Kemme also criticized the lack of cooperation in professional clubs that have a men’s and women’s team. She cited Eintracht Frankfurt as an example. “Do you think the players will ever run into the men? No. As far as the training ground is concerned, it’s no different than before, while the men have their own high-tech centre,” she said. “The paths don’t cross. Everything seems great from the outside, but internally there are still a lot of doors that are closed to women.”
