Tony Blair, who became Prime Minister in 1997, said he was saddened by the death of the British Queen. “We will miss her. She was the person who more than anyone else brought our country together, introduced us to our better nature, the personification of everything that makes us proud to be British. We have lost not only our queen but the matriarch of our nation”.
Theresa May, head of government from 2016-2019, said Elizabeth’s passing has plunged her into mourning. “It was the honor of my life to serve her as Prime Minister. She was respected and admired not only by her own people but also far beyond our family of nations. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family. God save the king”.
