Former gynecologist Henk Nagel feels shame, fear and guilt for conceiving several donor children during his years of service at the then Carolus Hospital in Den Bosch. That is what his spokesperson Rob Leeuwenburg says to the Brabants Dagblad.
The Jeroen Bosch Hospital (JBZ), into which Carolus was incorporated in 2002, reported Monday that between 1977 and 1985, Nagel had used “several times his own sperm” to make women pregnant. The JHA discovered Nagel’s actions when a donor child reported to the hospital last year with the suspicion that he was a child of the former gynaecologist. DNA testing proved that to be true.
Leeuwenberg tells the Brabants Dagblad that Nagel would find it premature to pin himself on a number of children and that he feeling guilty, anxious and ashamed† The now 82-year-old Nagel is said to have already had a conversation with his donor child.
‘Incomprehensible and inadmissible’
The JHA is commissioning further investigations to find out exactly what happened and to what extent. Chairman of the board Piet-Hein Buiting says in a statement that he is investigating whether there are other cases. He calls the situation ‘incomprehensible and intolerable’
