Former goalkeeper Jeroen Verhoeven is no longer concerned about the hustle and bustle of professional football

Jeroen Verhoeven was promoted and relegated twice with FC Volendam. The former goalkeeper ended his career more than six years ago and subsequently turned his back on professional football. “It doesn’t really concern me. I don’t follow it anymore,” says the owner of the Plezier indoor playground tonight on TV in De Aftrap. De Bussumer is a guest with sports journalist from de Volkskrant Willem Vissers.

After more than fifteen years, Verhoeven had seen it in professional football. He doesn’t watch matches. Every now and then he visits a match at one of his old clubs when he is invited. In addition to FC Volendam, Verhoeven was also under contract with RKC Waalwijk, Ajax and FC Utrecht. As a reserve goalkeeper for the Amsterdam team, he became national champion twice (2011 and 2012) and won the KNVB Cup (2010).

Euphoria Museumplein

The now 43-year-old Bussumer is enjoying his new life. He works closely with healthcare institutions and offers young people with disabilities and a distance to the labor market an (internship) place.

He has also opened a brasserie in a dementia center where people have daytime activities. “I stood on the Museumplein with the thirtieth bowl, but I also received a message from people: ‘thank you for allowing us to be a family again’. I don’t know whether the euphoria was more beautiful on the Museumplein, where you were a little girl. little boy dreamed of, or this?”

De Aftrap also discusses the upcoming debut of Ajax acquisition Jordan Henderson and the difficult sporting situation at AZ, FC Volendam and Telstar. Vissers says about the Velsen team: “They always have a low budget, but I think Mike Snoei doesn’t get enough points. He has quite a lot of players. But every week it is: ‘we were better, but we still lost.’ That’s too bad.”
