Former foreign minister Christodoulides named new president of Cyprus

Nikos Christodoulides (49), a former Cyprus foreign minister, has been officially declared the winner of his country’s presidential election. He won with 51.8 percent of the vote, his challenger Andreas Mavrogiannis (66) with 48.2 percent. The Ministry of the Interior announced this after 97 percent of all votes cast had been counted.
