Karl Vaino, who in 1978-1988 served as First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Estonia, died at the age of 99. says on the website of the Stavropegial Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Mytishchi. The deceased was the grandfather of the head of the presidential administration of Russia, Anton Vaino.
Vaino’s funeral took place on February 14, the report said. The ceremony was attended by colleagues and relatives. At the same time, Delfi writesthat Vaino was buried on February 16. The publication does not name the cause of death.
Karl Vaino was born in 1923 in Tomsk, where his parents had moved from Estonia a few years earlier. He studied at the Tomsk Electromechanical Institute of Transport Engineers and after graduation worked in railway structures in the Estonian SSR.
