Former FC Bayern star duped Messi and Co. with Panenka penalty

The French football Croesus Paris Saint-Germain has surprisingly flown out of the cup. The star ensemble around Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Co. failed in the round of 16 5: 6 on penalties at OGC Nice. An ex-FC Bayern player was one of the match winners.

After regulation time, the score was 0-0. Nice continued its strong run of the last few months with the surprising away win in Paris’s Prinzenpark.

The southern French had also recently impressed in the French championship and improved to second place in the table with five wins in a row.

After OGC Nice initially didn’t concede a goal, head coach Christophe Galtier’s players came up trumps in the crucial penalty shoot-out.

Central defender Dante in particular provided a highlight. The long-time Bundesliga player from Gladbach and FC Bayern was the seventh shooter for his colors and cheekily scored a Penanka penalty against world goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Immediately afterwards, PSG player Xavi Simons missed against Nice keeper Marcin Bulka and thus sealed the end of the big favorite.

Dante won the treble with FC Bayern in 2013

While Dante, who has been playing for OGC Nice since 2016 and won the first treble in the club’s history with FC Bayern in 2013, continues to dream of his first title in France, the Parisians’ dream of defending the title has burst.

In addition to the superstars Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé, the German international Julian Draxler, who was on the field for the full distance, had previously scored in the penalty shoot-out.

PSG have won the national cup six times in the past seven years, with Paris also holding a record 14 victories. Now Olympique Marseille (10 titles) could close the gap in this ranking as they are next to face Nice in the quarter-finals.
