Former director of the Remembrance Center Dirk Mulder awarded

Former director Dirk Mulder of the Kamp Westerbork Memorial Center was honored today at the German embassy in The Hague for his many years of dedication to a better relationship between the Netherlands and Germany.

It concerns the Verdienstkreuz, a high German decoration that can be compared with a royal decoration in the Netherlands. “I am convinced that we should work together,” he says of his efforts.

A concrete example of this is that Mulder made an effort to employ people of German descent as a Remembrance Center. “It was said: is this acceptable? I thought so, even though there has been criticism.”

“We also organized international summer camps for young people to foster mutual understanding. The idea behind it is that we must collectively preserve the memory across borders,” the former director said earlier.
