Former DFB boss Bierhoff is happy about Kroos’ return

Oliver Bierhoff is happy about Toni Kroos’ return to the DFB team. The former DFB managing director considers the 34-year-old to be an “enrichment”.

“I am very happy about Toni’s return to the national team. He is one of the best midfielders in the world and makes every team stronger,” said the 55-year-old in an interview with the Münchner Merkur/tz media group. “His experience, quality and leadership will be an asset to the national team and I am sure he will add hype to the team.”

Kroos announced his return to the DFB squad on Thursday. He resigned from the national team in 2021 after the round of 16 defeat against England at the European Championships. It was his 106th international match. Now he wants to play for the DFB team again in the international matches in France and against the Netherlands in March – and then also at the European Championships in his own country.

Bierhoff had to leave the DFB after the preliminary round exit at the World Cup in Qatar at the end of 2022. He was previously responsible for the national team at the DFB in various roles from 2004 onwards. Bierhoff’s time also included winning the title at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, in which Kroos played a decisive role in midfield.
